Yoga may improve musculoskeletal pain associated with computer overuse

These days, it seems as though everyone is constantly using a computer – for work, for play and for school. However, the benefits of technology do not come without consequences. Many individuals have reported discomfort in the neck, back and shoulders as a result of bad posture or too much time spent in front of the computer.

According to a new study conducted by Boston University researchers, more than half of college students said that they experienced pain as a result of using laptops, Tech News Daily reports.

"Computer-related discomfort in childhood and adolescence is of particular concern, as the musculoskeletal system and posture are still developing," said study author Karen Jacobs, quoted by the news source. "Parents need to not only monitor technology use, but instill best-practices so they are stretching and exercising certain muscles to prevent physical problems in the future."

Taking time away from the computer to meditate and perform deep breathing exercises may be useful in relieving discomfort. Among the numerous Dahn Yoga benefits are the potential to achieve inner peace, improve the mind-body connection and foster personal growth.
